Italian Wines
Oriano Grillo di Sicilia 2010
The little-known Grillo is native to Sicily and southern Italy, and is one of the region's most ancient white grape varieties. It is more widely found in the region's fortified wine, Marsala, but is here used to make a unique dry white. Straw yellow on colour, with youthful green highlights. The backbone flavours are of green apples, accompanied by scents of almond, pear and camomile on the nose. Drink with oily fish such as mackerel, bass or bream.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Crociani
The hilltop town of Montepulciano lies in the south of Tuscany near the town of Siena. The surrounding vineyards are planted with indigenous Sangiovese grapes (Prugnolo), used to produce one of Italy's noblest red wines. The Crociani family blend Sangiovese with a little Canaiolo and Mammolo, and traditional winemaking methods encourage extraction of voluptuous fruit character, with a distinct mineral and subtle oak influence after two years in barrel. The wine is ruby red with an orange tint, leading to a delicate and intense wine.
Lentezza Pinot Grigio
From the Veneto region, a light, mouth-filling wine with delicious white peach and Williams pear character and a clean dry finish.
50cl 2003 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico
Unlike many Valpolicella estates, there's nothing slapdash or rustic about I Castei. Genial Sergio Castellani runs his immaculate Marano cellar (founded by his father in 1945) like clockwork. Modernity doesn't run riot, but there are rational concessions: plastic buckets instead of fraying wicker, and aluminium fans to dessicate grapes for 'passito' styles like this. Rich, mellow flavours of conserved fruits and nuts; as sipped with almond biscuits at swish Italian eateries.
CHAMBORD 5cl Miniature
Chambord, France's Liqueur Royale, is a magnificent liqueur made with the world's finest black and red raspberries combined with delicious honey and Madagascan vanilla. Its rich but delicate taste makes it an essential part of any cocktail list. Chambord was inspired by a luxurious black raspberry liqueur produced for Louis XIV during one of his visits to Chateau Chambord. The Royal Chateau at Chambord is one of the most recognisable chateaux in the world because of its very distinct French Renaissance architecture that blends traditional medieval forms with classical Italian structures. Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur represents an era of luxury and indulgence sparked by Louis XIV and his descendants and the brand's orb shaped bottle is inspired by the centuries old symbol of the French monarchy. Chambord is created using all natural ingredients. The finest black and red raspberries are blended, before being steeped in Cognac to achieve a highly concentrated base. The mixture is then extracted and a second infusion captures the remaining flavours from the berries. The final step is in the hands of the Maitre Liquoriste, who marries the berry infusion with Cognac and extracts of Madagascan vanilla, Moroccan citrus peel, honey and hints of fragrant herbs. The result is an unprecedented level of all-natural complexities, flavour and aroma.
2007 Pinot Grigio, ll Colle,Veneto, Italy
Founded in 1972 by Fabio Ceschin (whose family have made wine since the 1920s) Il Colle lies amid the rolling hillsides of San Pietro di Feletto, north of Treviso. Italian wine aficionados will recognise this as Prosecco country, but the estate also produces an impressive range of still wines like this classic Pinot Grigio. Delicate aromas of peaches and spice lead to a softly-textured palate with a crisp finish. Excels with creamy pasta dishes.

On the nose the floral notes are there mountain meadows if I was being precise apples pears and slight spice too. DOMAINES SCHLUMBERGER - Les Prince Abbes, Gewurztraminer, 2007 75cl Bottle
Colour: Golden yellow with light green reflections and good intensity. Nose: Concentrated and distinguished. Exotic aromas of grapefruit, citrus and lychee are coupled with the floral characters of rose and peony. Aerating amplifies these scents but also reveals cumin and spices. Palate: Full bodied and well integrated with de defined vinocity. The palate mirrors the nose but with distinctive spicy character. A classic Gewurztraminer profile and good long finish. Food Matching: Asian, Indian & Chinese Cuisine, Seafood (Crab), Munster Cheese. The majority of Gewurztraminer grapes are sourced from the BOLLENBERG and BUX vineyards. The remainder is made up with grapes from the young vines in the Grand Cru vineyards. After slow pneumatic pressing the must is left to settle on the lees. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled tuns for between 1 and 4 months. The wine is then left to age for a further 6 to 8 months on the lees. Probably the most renowned wine in Alsace, Traminer comes from the North of Italy and dates back to the 16th century. Gewurztraminer (literally spiced or musky Traminer) is a selection of the most aromatic Traminers, and becomes Gewurztraminer 1950.

Bardolino 'Naiano' 2010/2011, Allegrini
Naiano is located in the hills close to the small town of Bardolino, on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. The vineyards here have a south-southwesterly aspect, giving the grapes excellent sun exposure, and the 200m altitude and cool temperatures ensure lengthy ripening. Straightforward and unmistakably Italian, this Bardolino is bright ruby red, with a freshness of fruit and a slender frame. Lingering flavours of cherry and bitter almond add a dash of complexity. Any simple Mediterranean cuisine will partner well with this wine, especially a lively Primavera style pasta, or dressed olives.
GUISEPPE ALBERTI - Liquore Strega 70cl Bottle
Made of over 70 different barks and herbs, it was first produced in Benevento, central Italy and is steeped in history where it is told that the drink was first made by beautiful female sprites and used their new potion to cast spells on lovesick humans, therby giving its name, Strega, meaning witch. It dates back to the 1860's and continues to have a romantic association where legend has it that couples who drink it together will remain united in love forever. A perfectly natural product, it obtains its typical yellow colour from the saffron added to the alcoholic infusion; then a long fermentation in oak vats concurs to the perfect balance of the aromas and contributes to the characteristic fine, smooth and soft taste. Excellent after a meal, it expresses its versatility in the most varied manners hence assuring an indisputable satisfaction whether sipping it dry, with ice or iced. Both the taste and the warm solar colour become the inseparable companions of long-drinks and cocktails, but it is also added to ice cream, fruit salad and as ingredient in cake preparations.
Tommasi Ripasso della Valpolicella Classico
A subtle and wonderfully charasmatic cherry scented red wine, given an extraordinary depth of flavour by refermenting the blend of Valpolicella grape varieties on the skins left from the Amarone wine and matured for 18 months in large oak barrels. The wine shows a spicy pepper nose, with a hint of raisins. Intense, spicy and sweet cherry flavours abound on the palate, a well balanced wine.
Gavi di Gavi 'Ca da Bosio'
Made from old Cortese vines planted in ideal positions on one of the hilltops that overlook the town of Gavi in the north of Italy. The soils in the central zone of Gavi di Gavi impart a perfumed mineral character adding complexity to lively aromas of ripe fruit and flowers. 'Ca da Bosio' is further refined by extended lees contact which imparts eloquent, complex, lingering hints of vanilla to the soft-textured dry finish.

Dreams Chardonnay 2009, Jermann
Sandwiched next to the Slovenian border in the North East corner of Italy, Friuli has had a history of producing light aromatic white wines of immense drinkability but of little interest outside the region. Silvio Jermann has almost single handedly changed that and is widely considered to be a true 'artist' in the production of wines from his region. His style is to bring out floral aromas and piercing varietal character along with subtlety and elegance, resulting in very long wines with good ageing potential. The bouquet is intense, ample and elegant with hint of honey and wild flowers. Dry and smooth on the palate with good balance and an exceptionally long finish. Sublime with roast turkey, hazelnut stuffing and a white wine gravy.
Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Produced from the three Valpolicella grape varieties of Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Molinara, cultivated high on the hillside terraces. After harvest the grapes are placed directly onto small open racks and brought to the open sided building where they are dried by the cool breezes of autumn and winter until the following February. The wine then undergoes a period of aging of at least four years in oak barrels before bottling. The colour is an intense ruby red, with a warm and intense ripe nose, whilst on the palate it is complex, smooth and full bodied, with clear shades of dried grapes.
2008 Masetto Dulcis, Endrizzi (Half Bottle)
The Endrici family, enthusiastic practitioners of biodynamic cultivation, have made wines in northern Italy's mountainous Trentino region for four generations from the fruit of two vineyards: Masetto and Kinderleit. The character of Masetto Dulcis derives from the sweetness of late-harvested aromatic Traminer and Chardonnay, barrel-fermented and matured. Enjoy the rich exotic fruit aromas and honeyed stone fruit flavours in this pale amber nectar with creamy, fruity
NARDINI - Rabarbaro Liqueur 1 Litre Bottle
Highly aromatic and delicious, with a unique flavour reminiscent of caramelised fruit, 'Rabarbaro' is derived largely from the Chinese rhubarb root, a component found in several leading Italian aperitivos. Superb over ice or with soda, Rabarbaro can be mixed '50-50' with 'Rosso' and soda to make the 'Mezzo-Mezzo', a simple cocktail that has been enjoyed for many years in Nardini's legendary grapperia on the old bridge at Bassano. For some, better still is 'Mezzo-Mezzo Inglese', a variant with 'Nardini Bitter' that is proving increasingly popular amongst regulars at the grapperia.
Maraia Palazzacci Rosso di Montalcino DOC
Tuscany is now regarded as the Italian wine producing region. This Rosso di Montalcino offers hints of raspberry and violets on the nose. It is concentrated but elegant on the palate with a fine structure. The Maraia range is produced by the Jaures Baroncini family, who have been making wine since 1489. The wine is made from the local grape Sangiovese. The Rosso di Montalcino DOC is considered to be Brunello di Montalcino's little sister and is made to be drunk young.Super Tuscans...Some Italian wine producers have planted non-local grapes in Tuscany to produce wines of different styles. Some of these are now considered to be among the best wines in the world, namely Sassicaia and Ornellaia made usually from Bordeaux grape varieties. Some traditional producers, however, remain loyal to their region and only produce wine made from Sangiovese.
BRIOTTET - Liqueur de Melon (Cantaloupe) 70cl Bottle
It was from Egypt, where it was already cultivated five centuries BC, that the melon set off for a long journey through Asia, via Persia and India. The 'Cantaloup' melon, cultivated by Roman monks, was introduced into France, in c.1495, by an expedition of Charles VIII on returning from the Wars of Italy. What a good idea! To begin with the melon was acclimated in the Comtat Venaissin and brought renown to the city of Cavaillon where Briottet's melons are produced. They are macerated to obtain a pleasant sweet, fruity and typical liqueur. It can be served as an aperitif or with desserts, alone or accompanied by champagne or white wine. Served chilled, it is excellent with sorbets, soups or fruit salads. You can also serve it in this cocktail: 3 cl liqueur de melons -1.5 cl vodka - 1.5 cl curacao triple sec - Fizzy water. To be drunk iced.
