WOODS 100 70cl Bottle

After the British Navy adopted its daily ration of a half pint of 160 proof rum, called a ‘tot’, the naval rum connection spread, and from the 1730’s a thriving export trade developed. Wood’s 100 is one such rum, originating from what was known as British Guyana in South America. It has been produced in the same way for over 150 years and acquired by Wm Grant & Sons in October 2002. Distilled at The Diamond Distillery, Guyana. It is produced using a combination of spirit made in both pot and continuous stills, from the finest sugar cane grown along the banks of the River Demerara. Réserve du Bastion Bourgogne Chardonnay 2008 Chanson Père et Fils

This is a crisp dry Chardonnay with delicate floral hints coupled with crisp citrus fruits and a touch of green apple. With good minerality and a finely balanced structure this is a fresh wine with plenty of fruit on the palate and well balanced acidity in the in finish. Enjoy with light meat dishes.

NARDINI – Grappa Ruta 70cl Bottle

Each bottle of Ruta features a large sprig of rue, a bitter herb that gives this unusual grappa a delightfully astringent flavour. Although the infusion is an acquired taste for some, Ruta has many advocates and was always the personal favourite of Aldo Signetti, the legendary head barman at Dukes Hotel in St James. In homeopathy, rue is sometimes used as a fever suppressant, but according to Italian folk-lore it not only increases male potency but assists women to relax. A fairly useful combination.

2006 Grangiovese, IGT, Castello di Argiano, Sesti

Giuseppe Sesti originally an academic with a particular passion for the effects of the moon on agriculture (he has published four books on the subject) took on the Argiano estate in 1975. The estate consists of 254 acres of land of which only eight are given over to the growing of grapevines. The rest is olive groves, pasture and woodland. The vineyards, however, are some of the best sited in the region, being on the southern slopes of Montalcino where the most prized Brunello comes from.

PRATS SYMINGTON – Post Scriptum 2006 75cl Bottle

The successful association between Bruno Prats, leading Bordeaux winemaker and the Symington family, with its knowledge and experience of the Douro since the 19th Century, led to the birth of the acclaimed Chryseia wine, which has brought immense prestige, not just to the Douro, but to Portuguese wines as a whole. It is produced in a more precocious style, ready to drink sooner, whilst maintaining considerable cellaring potential. Post Scriptum 2005 is mainly sourced from Quinta da Perdiz, bought by Prats & Symington just before the 2004 harvest. 2005 was an extraordinarily hot year. A dry autumn in 2004 was followed by a winter with hardly any rain, and summer was extremely hot and equally dry. The characteristic schistous soils found in the Douro once again proved to be very important ally to the vines, providing them with water throughout a period of prolonged drought. The rain that came as a true blessing on the 7th September allowed for perfect ripening and the rest of the Vintage proceded in ideal harvest conditions between the 12th September and 1st of October. Vinification: The selected grapes were vinified at Quinta do Sol where the Symington family have their modern vinification centre; rigorous grape selection by hand on selection tables (‘triage’); inoculation with selected yeast; fermentation in small stainless steel tanks and maceration by manual pumping over with temperature controlled at 26-27 degrees C.
